How long have you been in business?
San Diego Leather opened in 1974 just selling jackets but soon we made custom changes to our patterns for customers and did alterations on their jackets.
What is your primary product or service?
We sell leather jackets for fashion, aviation and motorcycle enthusiasts and carry wallets, belts, vests, purses and accessories like saddle bags.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
We owned a very large import store in Portland Oregon and it had a hot leather department that sold well. We were invited to open a leather store in a new reginal shopping mall. We carried imported and USA made leather jackets and coats but soon got into altering and eventually making our own jackets.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Many of the USA manufacturers we knew in LA and New York closed due to the competition of imports from China and Korea. Others became importers themselves and dropped their USA line. There are only a few of us that still manufacture USA made jackets. We sell our jackets to the military, police departments, aviators that want USA made jackets and bikers that appreciate our 2 and 3 ounce USA tanned Cowhide.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have the factory at 340 National City Blvd facing Freeway 5 and the internet. Want a FREE G1 Navy Flight Jacket in Goatskin (leather used from WWII to the Korean war)--IT's EASY! Volunteer 1000 hours at the USS Midway the museum ship in our harbor and they will award you our leather jacket. Our G1 is made in the USA with American Tanned Leather.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Go south on Freeway 5 and after you pass downtown San Diego and the Coronado Bridge you will see us on the Freeway. Take the 8th Street exit under the freeway and come to National City Blvd. Turn left and you will see us in 4 blocks at 4th and NC Blvd.
What type of payments do you accept?
We take Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, checks with proper id, PayPal and CASH! Styles can be purchased as layaways and we ship daily.
Which areas do you service?
We supply a large selection of USA made and imported leather goods and do alterations. Many law enforcement agencies and the Coast Guard purchase our leather jackets. We also sell to airlines like Alaska and many commercial pilots. Volunteer 1000 hours on the USS Midway Museum ship and get one of our jackets.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Our Manager is Tony and he is very knowledgeable about the leather business. Tony also has many motorcycle clubs that buy our jackets and vests and we sew on their patches. We carry the vest styles used in the Sons of Anarchy both imported and USA made.
What are your hours of operation?
We are closed on Sunday. But from Monday - thru Saturday we are open from 10:00 a.m to 6:30 p.m. On Sundays we are closed Please visit us or call 619 477-2900. Remember it's San Diego Leather - leather.com but we are in National City.
