Customer Reviews for Waldorf School of San Diego
Marie-Claude deRoovere on 11/6/2017 2:27:51 PM
My grandchildren have been attending the Waldorf School of San Diego since nursery school. Though I had my doubts when they were little, I am nothing but pleased now! My grandchildren are confident, intelligent, well spoken young adults. They know themselves, advocate for others, love math, play instruments, sing, think science is fun, want to be a good friend and strive to be better human being. What more could anyone ask for? This school has provided my grandchildren with both a challenging academic environment and also a vibrant community of supportive and like-minded peers. Thank you Waldorf for being my grandchildren's second home.

My son is currently in 8th grade at WSSD and we couldn't be happier. He has been at the school since 1st grade and his education has been solid. The school has fed his mental appetite for learning and has fueled his heart for offering compassion to those in need. We are looking forward to the next four years at WSSD's amazing high school!

The Waldorf School is the best holistic education available, firmly grounded in a deep understanding of the developmental phases of childhood and adolescence. A strong academic program is supported by a rich artistic program, which you really have to see to believe the variety of their offerings. 94% of their students go on to college - I should know, I am a proud Waldorf graduate and now an Anthropology major at college!

This school has been amazing for my 10th-grade daughter. The teachers are passionate about teaching and the students are inquisitive, confident and care deeply about their surroundings. It's a wonderful environment that has a strong emphasis on the humanities but also has rigorous programs in science, math, and technology. My daughter transferred from a large public high school and has adapted very quickly- the entire community has welcomed her with open arms.

We celebrated our 35th Anniversary in 2017.

We are an independent Waldorf school serving children from infancy through High School
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
A small group of committed teachers/parents got together in 1982 to found a school based on the educational principles of Rudolf Steiner. The school started in a family home and has blossomed over many years to become the only fully accredited (WECAN, AWSNA, and WASC) Waldorf school offering a full curriculum from parent-tot through high school.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Waldorf education was created in 1919 by Rudolf Steiner, a Renaissance man of his time. He founded the Biodynamic Farming movement, Anthroposophical Medicine, Anthroposophical Architecture, and much more. The holistic Waldorf curriculum is an arts-integrated, developmentally appropriate curriculum bringing the right thing, in the right way, at the right time. What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
Waldorf students are happy healthy children who LOVE learning! Parents, friends, neighbors, college and university professors all say that Waldorf students can look you in the eye and hold a decent conversation, they have many interests and aren't addicted to their electronic devices! The students learn two foreign languages, play a musical instrument, participate in athletics, and are well rounded in all the arts. They are also out of the box thinkers who love math and science, and want to understand the "why" behind things! Saul Bellow, Nobel Laureate says "If I had a child of school age, I would send him to a Waldorf school".
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
I have deep concerns about the scientific education in this country. If I am seeing the cream of the crop then the rest of the country must be in pretty bad shape! What I saw yesterday at a Waldorf school convinces me that there is still hope. The Waldorf student workbooks were unbelievable!....this one beautifully drawn image captured the essential anatomical and physiological essence of a unit of function of the kidney (the nephron) it could only have been made by someone who really got it. This is it, this is what is missing! If all our students knew how to work in this manner, just think of the marvelous science we could do!
